How to get to Sorrento


The closest airport to Sorrento is Naples, however Rome can also be used although it is further away.

How to get to Sorrento from Naples Airport:

By Bus:

There are 6 daily departures from Naples airport to Sorrento, leaving at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 2.30pm, 4.30pm, and 7.30pm.
The buses are run by Curreri Viaggi (http://www.curreriviaggi.it/) and leave from directly outside the Naples airport’s arrivals area. Buses stop at most of the towns along the Sorrento coast (Castellamare, Vico Equense, Meta di Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento, Sant’Agnello) before arriving in the centre of Sorrento, in Piazza Tasso.
Price: €10 one-way, reservations not needed.

There is also a direct local bus service which connects the airport to the central train station (Napoli Garibaldi) and to Piazza Municipio which is next to the Port of Naples if you would prefer to get the train or the boat to Sorrento. By Train:

At the main Naples train station in Piazza Garibaldi, take the stairs to the underground and head for the “Circumvesuviana” line. Trains to Sorrento depart approximately every 20 minutes.

Tickets costs about €4.00 one-way. You can buy tickets from the ticket stand or at most newsagents in the station. Remember to validate tickets in the yellow machines in the station before you board the train. The total travel time is approximately 01:06.

Sorrento's train station is located in the centre of town, five minutes' walk from the main Piazza Tasso along Corso Italia.


By Boat:

There are hydrofoils linking Naples to Sorrento, from the main Naples port (Molo Beverello), located adjacent to the Maritime Station at the Port of Naples in front of the Town Hall Square (Piazza Municipio). This is a taxi ride away from the main rail station. Ferries take about 40 minutes to Sorrento.
The timetable for the Summer is not yet available, but keep an eye on the ferry company website (http://www.alilauro.it/) and information from the tourist office (http://www.sorrentotourism.com/it/index.php).
The current times for ferries from Naples to Sorrento are 09:00 - 11:00 - 13:00 - 15:05 - 17:15, but this may change from the 13/05/2012.

The hydrofoils and the ferries arrive at the port of Sorrento, about 500m from the town center and served by the shuttle buses to and from Piazza Tasso.


By Taxi:

Taxis are also available from the airport to take you anywhere in the area, including Sorrento. The Naples town Hall has published the correct fares that may apply to the different taxi routes. Please make sure you check with the taxi driver before you leave. The taxi driver should have a copy of the published fares. Fees for luggage and tools can be extra.
Also, a quick taxi ride to Molo Beverello (Naples Port) will bring you to the ferry station. Or, from the airport, you can also take a taxi or bus to the train station and then catch the train to Sorrento.

By Car:

For those travelling by car (from naples), drive for approximately 50kms (approx. 31 miles), along the motorway A 2 Rome-Naples highway; then turn onto the A 3 Highway exiting at Castellammare of Stabia; here you arrive at the SS Sorrentine 145 (For locals known as "La Sorrentina"), which runs alongside the coast all the way to Sorrento.
Rental Car companies are available at Naples Airport and some other areas of Naples. Please note that toll-fees are to be paid when moving around the extra-urban areas, joining freeways and highways. Keep small change available.


How To Get To Sorrento From Rome:

From Rome Ciampino Airport:

You can get shuttle buses from the airport to Rome Central Train Station (Roma Termini) and catch a train to Naples (timetables available here: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html).
Alternatively you can get a shuttle bus to Ciampino town and get a train from there (via Rome central Station) to Naples.
From Naples, you need to change at Naples to the “Circumvesuviana” line which will bring you to Sorrento.

From Rome Fiumicino Airport: 

You can get a The Leonardo Express, a direct train that serves the route between the airport and the centre of the city of Rome every 30 minutes. Or you can get a shuttle bus (e.g. Terravision) from the airport to Rome Central Train Station (Roma Termini). And then change for a train to Naples.

Bus to Sorrento from Rome:

There are buses which go straight to Sorrento from Tiburtina Station in Rome which is both a rail station and an underground station. The bus makes 4 other stops including Naples and Pompei and takes approximately 4 hours to get to Sorrento. There are only 2 buses per day leaving at 7:00am and 3:00pm and the journey costs approximately €18 single and €31 return.

Getting around Sorrento and the local area:
There is plenty to see in sorrento and in the sourrounding area (Naples, Amalfi coast, Pompei, Capri, Ercolano, Paestum etc..) and it can all be easily accessed through the local train network ('Circumvesuviana'), boats from Sorrento Port and the local bus network.

Sorrento Town Buses
Orange town buses provide a regular service, approx every 20 minutes, on
four routes including Marina Piccolo (Ferry Port) to the Square thus avoiding a steep ascent or descent by foot.

Line A: Capo - Piazza Tasso - S Agnello - Piano - Meta
Line B: Marina Piccola - Piazzo Tasso - Train Station
Line C: Marina Piccola - Piazzo Tasso - S Agnello
Line D: Marina Grande: Piazza Tasso - Marina Grand


Sorrento to Massa Lubrense
 Blue SITA buses provide regular services to the following locations which are worth visiting and give easy access to villages such as Capo, Nerano, Pantano and the beaches at Marina del Cantone, Puolo and Recommone. They also link up to a number of scenic walks.
